CHEMICAL SKIN PEELS

What are chemical skin peels ?

Skin peels and resurfacer treatments are designed to exfoliate your skin and encourage it to refresh itself by creating new skin cells. They also stimulate the skins natural collagen production to help target the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Skin peel treatments make use of natural acids and enzymes to exfoliate away layers of the skin to reveal fresher, clearer, more youthful looking skin beneath the surface.
We use a number of different peels with differing strengths and ingredients to individually target different areas of concern. These may vary from fine lines and wrinkles to acne to hyperpigmentation.

The benefits of a skin peel

  • Rejuvenated and brighter skin

  • Revival of dull skin

  • Removes dead skin cells

  • Evens out skin texture and reduces large pores

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles

  • Smoother, softer skin

  • Eliminates pigmentation and effects of sun damage

How does a peel work?

A chemical skin peel involves applying one or more chemical solutions such as salicylic acid, lactic acid or glycolic acid to the skin.

Depending on the type of peel used, different skin types and concerns can be treated. When applied to the skin these acids cause exfoliation and peeling of the skin. The treatment causes a small ‘injury’ to the skin (we call this Controlled Wounding) which allows it to not only build new collagen and elastin, but to regenerate itself and make fresh, new skin. The idea is, that by removing the top layer of dead skin, we can encourage new skin cells to form in the lower layers.

Different ingredients work at different levels in the skin and have varying effects therefore, it is important that a thorough consultation is carried out with your therapist.

Our skin therapist will discuss your needs and concerns with you to help decide which peel would be best for you.

How often should I have a peel?

Like microneedling, the best results will be achieved after a number of treatments.

We recommend one treatment every 4 to 6 weeks.

One treatment in itself will freshen your skin and is ideal for a special occasion however, for those looking for serious results, a cost of around 4 to 6 is recommended.

After this time, regular maintenance treatments can be taken.

What will I look like after a peel?

Our medical grade, specialised peels are designed to get the benefits and results of a medium grade peel with the downtime of a light peel.

Because of this, there is no ugly, shedding of skin often experienced by the old ‘10 years Younger peels’.

Expect a slight pinkness to your skin and possibly some very superficial dryness in areas for around 48 hours after your treatment.

Skin can be left slightly sensitive for a few hours and will also be susceptible to effects from the sun. Therefore, it is not recommended to have a peel prior to going on holiday where there will be sun exposure.

We highly recommend the use of an SPF 30 or above, not just after your treatment, but this should be incorporated into your everyday skincare regime as a matter of course.
